Book Count 2

It's that time of year again. My birthday (April 16th) has come and gone; it is now time to count up the number of books i have read for this entire year of 365 days.
*Drumroll please*

175 books!!!!
That's a little sucky I know, compared to previous numbers which were in the high 300's. I blame school plus the beautiful meeting of fanfiction and I. Next year (April 16,2015-April 16,2016) will be so much better I know it. I will break my record of 397 books.

The Story of Awkward

The Story of Awkward
R.K. Ryals
157 pages

Summary: Barnes & Noble's website (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-story-of-awkward-rk-ryals/1119169852?ean=2940046381894)
If you are looking for a happy book about beautiful people, this is the wrong story.
If you are looking for a narrative without emotion, without regrets, and without mistakes, this is definitely the wrong story.
This is by no means an uncomplicated tale about uncomplicated people. It is by no means sweet or light.
This story is ugly.
This story is complicated.
This story is emotional.
This story is tragic.
In short, this story is about being awkward.
Peregrine Storke is an artist with an odd sketchbook full of pictures she’s drawn since she was a child. It is a book full of strange sketches and awkward characters, for there is no better way to hide from bullying and life than to create a world of your own. With a stroke of her pencil, she has given life to a spectacled princess, a freckle-nosed king, a candy loving troll, a two-horned unicorn, and a graceless fairy.
At nineteen, Peregrine leaves her home, her sketchbook, and awkwardness behind. But what happens when something goes wrong in the world of Awkward? Trapped inside of her complex realm with the bully she thought to leave behind, Peregrine discovers there is nothing worse than falling for your own villain.
My Opinion:
I really enjoyed this Nook book. Its one in a million. Who isn't awkward? And I know I am more than others. This book looked like it was made for me. It was super cute. I could relate to all the characters, even the "made-up" ones. Peregrine seemed to suffer from a horrible childhood, which I couldn't fully relate to, but creating a whole world of art to escape to; that is what I understand. The inclusion of her bully  into the story was one of the best parts. The villain is a true real-life villain; that the world needs to slay. The book has a message to relay to people: It is okay to be awkward & that perfection is overrated. After reading the book, I felt all warm and bubbly inside. If you have low-self esteem or know someone who does, I think you should read this book. Same for if you don't. This is a book for all ages & everyone who is just a little awkward. Its a free Nook book from Barnes & Noble. What do you have to lose?

The Loop

The Loop
Shandy Lawson
198 pages

Summary: Shandy Llwason's website (http://www.shandylawson.com/)
Ben and Maggie have met, fallen in love, and died together countless times. Over the course of two pivotal days—both the best and worst of their lives—they struggle again and again to resist the pull of fate and the force of time itself. With each failure, they return to the beginning of their end, a wild road trip that brings them to the scene of their own murders and into the hands of the man destined to kill them.

My Opinion:
Wow! This is book. It's wild. Fate can be so cruel. I've never read a book about a time loop before so this was really interesting. The dynamics and the explanation of a time loop was beautifully done. Maggie is my favorite character. Steve comes as a close second. I really liked this book, though I took forever to read it. It's been sitting in my room for weeks. This is the author's first book and I think he did a great job. I just was a little confused when the loops started over (it happened 3 times) and the point-of-view changed from Ben to Maggie. It seemed a little pointless since the only thing that really changed was how that person's feelings were described. Out of the point-of-view change came more light on Maggie's past. That was really enjoyable, though I think i would have liked a little bit more about her other loops. The ending was really cute, though it kinda does give off the vibe of possibly a sequel. I recommend others to read this book.

Wicked Lovely

Wicked Lovely
Melissa Marr
328 pages
Wicked Lovely

Summary: Direct from Goodreads.com ("Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely, #1)." Goodreads. Web. 21 Mar. 2015.)

Rule #3: Don't stare at invisible faeries.
Aislinn has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in the mortal world. Aislinn fears their cruelty - especially if they learn of her Sight - and wishes she were as blind to their presence as other teens.

Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries.
Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.

Rule #1: Don't ever attract their attention.
But it's too late. Keenan is the Summer King, who has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. He is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost — regardless of her plans or desires.

Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working anymore, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; her life; everything.

Review:

Wicked Lovely had an interesting take on the world of faery. A search for the Summer Queen is basically what the whole book and backstory is about. Keenan was under a curse of centuries that makes him go on a search to find his one and only, though Aislinn already has her's (Seth). My favorite character was Seth. He is so enamored with Aislinn, indepndent, and such a great friend to have. The Winter Queen was such a villian. I really have no words for this book, besides that it was interesting. I predicted a portion of the ending. The world she created seemed different from the world of faery I have grown up on. I liked the sensory words Marr used to describe the faery's. I can see them in my mind's eye. This book is a part of the Wicked Lovely series. Im not sure yet if i want to read the rest of the series. The rest of the series tells a different portion of the story in another perspective. The only ones I would really cared about is Seth's and Donia. Enjoy if u will.
